Dear Friends

There will be a Youth 2000 Retreat at Good Shepherd Parish Center on February 27, 28 & 29. In answer to Pope John Paul’s challenge to prepare young people to live and proclaim the Gospel, Youth 2000 was born.  Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal have been conducting Eucharistic centered retreats for young people throughout the world since 1992.

Youth 2000 prepares our young people to respond to Pope John Paul II’s call to be instruments and leaders of a new effort to bring the Gospel to the world by strengthening their love for the Holy Eucharist and bearing witness to the role Jesus has in their lives.  Young people are given the opportunity during the retreat to grow in their understanding of the Catholic Faith and deepen their commitment to the service of the Church and others. There are so many positive aspects to highlight about a Youth 2000 Retreat.  In addition to having Christ’s presence in the Holy Eucharist, young people have been impacted by the inspirational talks given by the Friars and other witness speakers, the lively praise and worship music and, of course, the fellowship of other young Catholics.

We are so grateful to you who passed the word and encouraged the youth in your care to participate.  Nearly every parish and school in our diocese has been represented at our past two retreats ministering to a total of over 500 people.  Some used this opportunity for their Confirmation retreat.  As Youth 2000 is Eucharistic-centered, it works very well for preparing for the final sacrament of initiation.

We are asking you to please encourage your young people to attend this retreat, and to also experience it with them.  Promotional fliers and registration forms have been delivered to your parish for you to pass on to your young people. Please view the enclosed DVD made by young people from our diocese wanting to share their experience with you.  It could be shown to your Religious Ed. Classes, youth group or just play after Masses for those interested. You attend free.

For your information, there are quite a few high school and college students who are very eager and willing to speak with you, your youth group or religious education classes and share their experience with Youth 2000.

If you would like someone to do this or have any questions you may call Kathy Smith @ 812-490-0289 or Gail Shetler at 812-401-8147.

Feel free to call us if you have any questions.  We would greatly appreciate your support in making this retreat a deep and lasting experience for all of the young people of our diocese.   We hope you will join us.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Fr. Tony Ernst
