"Why doesn't anyone listen to me?" Have you ever found yourself asking that question? At a time when many look at youth and young adults as having nothing to add to their local communities, the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Diocese of Evansville wants your voice to be heard! Would you like to help determine the ministries available to you in the Diocese? Do you have ideas to enhance your youth/young adult programs? Then OYAYA needs you!

A new Diocesan Youth Leadership Team (YLT) is being assembled to help plan and implement youth and young adult ministry around the Diocese. This team will largely be composed of those in their high school years; however, we need faithful young adults (those in their 20's and 30's) to act as mentors and facilitators for the YLT meetings.

More than thirty-five (35) youth and young adults attended the first meeting on January 17th, and we expect even more in the future! Please help us to build the programs you want by lending your gifts and talents to this team. The Offices of Adult Formation and Youth and Young Adult Ministry are working together to make this great event even more exciting! This year's Source & Summit Retreat is fast approaching! This is one of the best youth and young adult functions in the Diocese, and it continues to grow year after year. The retreat will take place at Memorial High School, February 19th-21st. All of the registration forms can be accessed and downloaded from the new Source & Summit website. It is time to begin the nominations for the highest honor conferred upon youth in the Diocese of Evansville, the Saint Maria Goretti Youth Distinction. Do you know someone who exemplifies what it means to love and follow Jesus Christ? Consider asking your Pastor, DRE, or Youth Minister to nominate them to receive this distinction. The Mass and Conferral Ceremony will occur at St. Benedict Cathedral, Evansville, on Sunday, March 14th at 1:00 pm CDT. The OYAYA has been awarded $3,750 in scholarship monies for youth from the diocese to attend ND Vision on the campus of Notre Dame this summer! This is a great program, and you can learn more by clicking here: ND Vision Site. Talk to your Youth Minister to discuss plans to attend one of sessions this summer, and then get in contact with OYAYA to apply for your scholarship!
