CHRISTIANS NEED DEAF AWARENESS

The biggest problems facing deaf Americans is hearing people who do not understand deafness.

Today, Christians must make the word of Christ visible to deaf people. The invisible barrier of deafness now isolates millions of potential Christians from participating in the church body.
Christians need to share the "Good News" of Jesus Christ's salvation by encouraging churches
to serve deaf children and adults ... and severely hard of hearing people.

Deafness is only a handicap of communication and it is the only handicap about which everyone
can do something! Hearing people can learn to communicate with Deaf people. Life giving messages
are not communicated by radio to those with hearing problems. Only a small percentage of
Christian TV Ministries bother to provide Closed Captioning for Deaf and Hard of Hearing viewers.

Only 2% of Deaf people attend church and less than 2% of churches provide Sign Language Interpreters or visual aids or amplification to invite Deaf or Hard of Hearing people to share the "Good News" of Jesus with them. ..."and looking up to Heaven with a deep sigh, He said to him, 'Ephatha,' that is, 'Be Open.'" (Mark 7)

"Ephatha" is the message our Lord sends to His church today. "Be Open" to His Deaf children for silence is not golden when it robs millions of our fellow citizens of Jesus' love and fellowship.
