MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Brescia University Ministry Formation Program is "to provide the Catholic
faithful with a quality education that integrates personal, theological, and professional competencies
and skills for lay ecclesial ministry in the contemporary Catholic Church. Upon successful completion
of the program, the student is acknowledged to have satisfied the requirements of an undergraduate
program which is accredited by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops' Commission on
Certification and Accreditation" (USCCB:CCA).

Undergraduate Studies In Ministry Formation
Program Description

Students who enroll in the Ministry Formation Program can pursue one of the following options:
• A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry
• An Associate of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry
• An Associate of Arts Degree in Catechetical Leadership
• A Certificate in Pastoral Ministry
• A Certificate in Catechetical Leadership

Students pursuing the B.A. degree may also specialize in youth ministry through the National
Certification Program in Youth Ministry Development of Naugatuck, CT. Courses towards the
Ministry Formation Program degree are available on-campus, as well as off-campus in the
Dioceses of Owensboro, KY and Evansville, IN.

B.A. Degree With A Major In Pastoral Ministry
   Required to Graduate: 128 credit hours
  General Education Requirements: 57 credit hours
  Major Subject Requirement: 33 credit hours

Core Curriculum For Ecclesial Lay Ministers         Schedule for Classes

The Roman Catholic Arch/dioceses in Indiana (Indianapolis, Evansville, Gary, and Lafayette)
have collaborated to develop a core curriculum for ecclesial lay ministry formation. Areas of
responsibility for these lay ministers may include pastoral ministry, religious education, liturgy,
music, youth ministry, Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, fiscal management, and social
concerns. The goals of the interdiocesan core curriculum are:
 
• to provide basic formation for all lay ministers who are currently serving or aspiring to serve in paid
  or volunteer positions in each of the four respective diocese.
• to provide a common foundation for the three essential elements of education and formation
  - personal and communal spiritual formation
  - academic course work
  - pastoral/professional skills
