CATECHIST TOOLBOX AND
ECHOES OF FAITH
DIOCESE OF EVANSVILLE CATECHETICAL
MINISTRIES
The Catechist Toolbox
Winter
2010
Sessions
The
Catechist Toolbox consists of 14 topics. Topics are rotated among the deaneries.
Each topic is
two and
one half hours in length.
Catechist Toolbox sessions:
• touch the topics of our Catholic Tradition and Scripture minimally.
• are designed for the catechist who has had little or no training or background
in the area
of catechesis.
• are very appropriate for parents.
• are helpful for RCIA catechists (especially the academic and spiritual
modules).
Topics:
Entering Into Experience Moving to Faith
We encounter God in personal and community experiences.
Reflection on these moments leads to a deepening of faith.
The rituals of sacraments provide ways to express this faith.
Reflect on how to connect this to daily life.
How do you then share this story with those you teach?
Moral
Decision Making
How do I know I have an “informed conscience”?
When I don’t always “get it right”, or mess up relationships with
family, friends, and God, how do I make good moral decisions?
What is personal and social sin.
How the
Bible Became Catholic?
What is the difference between Catholic and Protestant Bibles?
How did that story come about? Did you ever wonder about
all the different translations? What is inspired revelation?
Teaching and
Preaching With the Brain in Mind
Everyone approaches learning differently. Some through seeing,
others doing, others moving. Learn to identify and understand the
multiple ways our brains learn. By appreciating these learning styles,
catechists and parents can vary methods, and enhance learning experiences.
Who Is Jesus?
This workshop will help you know in a deeper way who Jesus is to you.
How do parents and catechists share this relationship with those they teach and
form?
Jesus has become flesh among us. He continues to live among us!
Partners in
Christ’s Mission
Parents and Catechists – both have a responsibility to pass on the faith.
But who does what? This workshop will look at the role of each – with
practical ways of sharing faith with children. Participants will walk away
with fresh ideas to use in the classroom and at home. Together, we will
discover how to share the mission of Christ.
Liturgy –
Some Nuts and Bolts
Why and when do we genuflect or bow, kneel,
stand, and sit?
How do I find my way around in an ordo, lectionary, sacramentary?
What are chasuble, alb, stole? Learn about this and many
other symbols and gestures we use in liturgical prayer.
