SACRAMENTAL MINISTER – MODERATE PARISH  INVOLVEMENT

 

Title:                             Sacramental Minister – Moderate Parish Involvement

Status:                          Exempt

Accountable to:            Bishop of the Diocese of Evansville

 

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

            The Sacramental Minister is a diocesan or religious priest who is appointed by the bishop to provide sacramental ministry for a parish whose leader is the Pastoral Life Coordinator (The Presbyteral Moderator provides oversight and support to the Pastoral Life Coordinator.) The Sacramental Minister collaborates with the Pastoral Life Coordinator and appropriate committees to provide sacramental ministry for the parish.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

            A.        The Sacramental Minister is assigned to preside at the sacramental liturgies which both

                        express and form the faith life of particular community.

                        1.         The first priority is the celebration of the Eucharist each Sunday and holy day. The

                                    Sacramental Minister or the Presbyteral Moderator fulfills the obligation of

                                    celebrating the Missa pro populo (Mass for the people) each Sunday and holy day.

                        2.         The second priority is the celebration of the other sacraments when needed.

            B.         The Sacramental Minister is encouraged to participate in the meetings of the liturgical

committee or meet with the Director of Liturgy as well as with those involved in sacramental

preparation programs.

            C.        The Sacramental Minister is encouraged to attend the social events of the parish and meetings

                        of the pastoral council of which he is an ex-officio non-voting member.

Title:                             Sacramental Minister -- Extensive Parish Involvement

Status:                          Exempt

Accountable to:            Bishop of the Diocese of Evansville

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

The Sacramental Minister is a diocesan or religious priest who is appointed by the bishop to provide sacramental ministry for a parish whose leader is the Pastoral Life Coordinator (The Presbyteral Moderator provides oversight and support to the Pastoral Life Coordinator.) The Sacramental Minister collaborates with the Pastoral Life Coordinator and appropriate committees to provide sacramental ministry for the parish

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

A.        Parish Leadership: The Sacramental Minster collaborates with the Pastoral Life Coordinator to provide sacramental ministry for the parish. The Sacramental Minister presides over the celebration of the sacraments.

B.         Ministry of Worship:

1.         Provides leadership in the Parish Community's sacramental life: i.e. RCIA, Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Marriage, Anointing and funeral services.

2.         Schedules and/or arranges for the regular celebration of the Eucharist in

collaboration with the Pastoral Life Coordinator.  The Sacramental Minister or the Presbyteral Moderator fulfills the obligation of celebrating the Missa pro populo (Mass for the people) each Sunday and holy day.

3.         Collaborates with the Pastoral Life Coordinator and the appropriate commission(s) in planning and celebrating the sacraments.

C.        Ministry of Education: is available as resource person (or even occasional instructor) for classes in religious education in school, other religious education programs, and adult education classes.

D.        General Parish Concerns:

1.         Has a particular concern for the ministry of the sick and directs pastoral services for  individuals suffering illness, grief or crisis.

2.         Visits the hospitals for anointing and spiritual comfort of those hospitalized.

3.         Coordinates ministry to nursing homes and shut-ins.

E.         Administration:

1.         Has a monthly meeting with the Pastoral Life Coordinator to develop and maintain clear, mutual expectations, ensure good communication, review the pastoral care of the parish and clarify diocesan policies.

2.         The Sacramental Minister is a participant at the weekly parish staff meetings

offering informed suggestions and constructive criticisms of parish programs.

3.         The Sacramental Minister is an ex-officio non-voting member of the Parish Council.

4.         The Sacramental Minister attends social events and various meetings in the parish.
